YooA's Bon Voyage is not CA
On September 7, 2020 YooA made a solo debut with her Bon Voyage (Korean title “Forest Child”). Twitter again has claimed “Cultural Appropriation” without research. Please read the following link.
-By the way, this is what prehistoric Koreans wear-
If you’ve watched that video of Native Americans debunking the claim that Bon Voyage is CA of Native American culture but still thinking “but what about the headdress she wore?” Well to answer that…
Why deer antlers? If you’re a fan of Oh My Girl, you’d know that deers hold a special meaning to their heart. Deers are often seen in their MV’s and even their lightstick. Why? That’s because it represents us, their fans. In other words, YooA’s headdress in Bon Voyage is not inspired from Native American headdress, but from deer antlers.
On top of that, have you ever wondered why YooA’s Bon Voyage received good feedback from the Korean GP?? That’s because nature, specifically trees, have a great significance in Korean traditional culture. The Baekdu-Daegan, a mountain-system in Korea, ties in with nature-spirituality in Korea. It is wrong to assume that Bon Voyage took foreign cultural elements when they have their very own tradition of nature-spirituality, which is something that is much less portrayed in mainstream K-pop.
Having read this, the title/nickname “Forest Child” now makes sense. The spirit of the wolf possessing her, her being a fairy, and also her turning into a butterfly to become one with nature is consistent with what has already been in traditional Korean culture since ancient times. On top of that, Japanese culture and Korean culture also share some similarities.
Many stans on Twitter are too quick to believe the stuff that they see as the truth. They don’t even bother looking beyond screenshots, oversimplified tweets, and even straight up false claims regarding the situation. In fact, they twisted so many truths. You’ll even see tweets like “Don’t stan them because they are homophobic/terrorist.” From these, you can already tell that many of them don’t have a clear idea of what’s going on, and they just proceeded to go along with the bandwagon hate. This clearly shows that stans would do anything against groups that they don’t like, even as far as bullying and spreading misinformation.
